About Trauma

Lower leg, ankle and foot sprains, strains, and fractures are common injuries that can result from trauma caused by sports injuries, falls, automobile accidents or workman’s comp type injuries. Trauma of the lower extremity can often make it difficult to function due to swelling, severe pain and limited mobility. Trauma can range from a simple sprain or a broken bone to multiple bone breaks and ligament disruption. At times, special imaging tests are required to determine the severity of the trauma; x-rays are taken to determine bone injury or if displacement is shown, CT scans evaluate complex bone fractures and joint problems and MRI scans are high resolution images that determine injury to both bones and soft tissue such as tendons, ligaments, nerves and fascia.
